Human Resources Business Partner
I’ve been with the WWLHIN for just about a year now. It’s been eye-opening moving to health care. There are just so many facets to the system. It’s a great feeling knowing that what we do helps people every day. We make an important impact on people’s lives.
Working in HR, I don’t get involved in direct patient care, but I know that I’ve helped someone provide that care. Putting patients first is very much a part of my job behind the scenes, whether it’s helping to hire the right people or providing the tools they need to do their job. It’s definitely part of how we recruit for roles. We want to make sure we’re putting the right people in the right positions. That can make all the difference for the patients.
The people who work here are also patients in the health care system. When they need help, they are turning to the same health care resources in the community. We want to make sure the system works for all of us.
Health care is an industry that never slows down. It’s always moving and always changing. That can take a toll on the people who work in the system. It’s important to build resilience around that change. We need to remember that we can’t provide the best care to others if we don’t provide the best care for ourselves.
Part of my job is to make sure our employees are at their best for their patients. When they get drained, we’re here to offer support and resources to help them. Sometimes, just being a listening ear can go a long way.
Our frontline team has a demanding and really important job. They are supporting people who are going through some of the toughest times in their lives. Our team makes sure these patients are not alone in facing those situations.
Before I came to the LHIN, I didn’t realize just how much we touch the community. When you don’t have an immediate need for health care, you aren’t always aware of what’s out there. I have an ageing father. Before I came here, I just assumed I would be alone in caring for him. Now I know there is a whole support structure to help both of us when the time comes.
We’re here for people not just in their later years, but also through their whole lives. We all need support at some point in our lives. I love that we can be a community resource for anybody in the local community.
Knowing we are doing good things motivates me to come in and do my best each and every day.
